As of late, I have been trying really hard to emphasize a varied diet, for any animal. My very first Arowana died because I did not know better, fed her loads of krill and she was gorgeous... till she got drop eye and died at 13 inches. Now I almost never feed them the same thing two feedings in a row, for our arowana I mix it up: krill, for color and beefheart for protein, I feed with those sparingly a few times a week, but I feed them crickets every day. It is good exercise and is very fun to watch, today I fed our black aro two dubai cockroaches; a great alternative to crickets for your larger fish. Sally, our red tail catfish, eats all those same things but in much larger quantities, as well as feeder goldfish. Our plecos eat slices of cucumber, zucchini, mushrooms, and squash. sweet potatoes or yams make great exercise for any panaques such as royals or clown plecos. From time to time we spoil our fish by feeding them de-boned fresh caught alaska king salmon. Its always important to never overfeed, a hungry fish is a happy fish my friend always says. Your fish will greatly benefit from a wide, rich and varied diet, even if it means turning up rocks for worms and beetles!

tip of the week

If you own a plecostomus that is not eating, or has a sunken stomach, soak a slice of zucchini or cucumber in garlic juices and weight it down with a spoon. it will be nothing but rind by morning. Commons, goldspots, gold nuggets and sailfin plecos love whole crimini or white mushrooms as well, float them to see large plecos go upside down to get them.

ok, I apologize for my long absence. I have not had internet for almost a year now and my canon was stolen, but expect more input in the near future.

btw: make some hiding places for the fish :D
A coconut, some plants or a barrel are perfect :D
The gurami fish likes to hide sometimes and they will like a dark place :)
A coconut are easy to transform to a Attraction for the fish :D
You just have to take the milk and the coco out, wash it and try to take away most of the straw on the shell :meow: the coconut can be in 2 different designs:
The whole coconut with 1 hole, or
Break the shell in half :D
